Another TV ad — “A Better Day”
No one can accuse us of taking time off anymore. Using our post about how the city of Washington is better off without Heath Shuler as inspiration, we’ve done another TV ad.

First off the redskins [euphemism for a sex act that we decided to edit out]! They are a bunch of overpaid pussies and they have put a black mark on the league. Second, what does playing football and poltics have to do with each other. It is ill-informed sites like this that have made politics a joke. Get a life or a girlfriend or something. That is what most of us normal people do.
Did you feel the same way about GW becoming Pres of the USA? Seems he failed miserably at every business he owned & managed, made a lot of money from them, then went on to the highest political office in the land. As far as I am concerned, Shuler would have done a better job than GW. Your hipocracy is laughable.
“In the end, whether Democrats or Republicans control the House doesn’t matter, he said. “The really important thing is football. A Redskins Super Bowl vs. a Democratic Congress? That’s not really that hard of a choice.”
This is the most selfish and moronic comment I have ever read! Pull your head out of your arse and look around you! If the Deomcrats do not win control over Congress this fall, this country will risk being dragged into a war with Iran and will continue to amass enormous forgeign debt to “Stay the course” in Iraq. Football is a LUXURY not real life. Grow up and join the human race!
I just want to make a few comments. It is obvious you are a diehard Skins fan and not a Shuler fan. Heath would have been successful if the draft had turned out a bit different. In fact, TWO Qb’s would have had vast different careers. Shuler’s style was a better fit for Tampa and Dilfer was a better fit for the Skins. Instead, two insane draft guru’s thought they could make Orange Juice with apples. Shuler was never a drop back pocket QB, he was more athletic and better on the run, and that was not what Norv was looking for.
As far as being successful, I choose to believe you separate football and reality. Shuler has a good business head and he cares about people. It would be a great change to have that type of person in Washington instead of hate mongers who have websites to air senseless opinions that have nothing to do with character, only a grudge held by a petty immature person.
Regards!
How about a little levity folks? I am a die-hard Democrat but still chuckled a few times after viewing this site. If joe-blow ignorant voter really bases his vote off a clearly satirical website, then the Repug Party can have him. I really don’t want him in my demographic.
At first I had no idea what the ad, or your site, was about. I didn’t get it. But then I figured it out, and I have to say, I find this site genius. The parties make a mockery of politics, so why can’t football fans when a busted draft pick runs for office. The people you complain need to relax. Bravo. (Hell, I’m a Democrat and I love it.)
Not sure I see a connection between bad quarterbacking and bad legislating. The converse is certainly not true: Jim Bunning was an outstanding pitcher, but has been an embarrassment in Congress.
This is the greatest blog in the history of man. You know the thing about Heath Shuler? He’s no Jay Schroeder, that’s for sure.
wow–cool. make lots more of these and spread them all across the country, quick… one of the most honest ads i’ve seen in years.
Hey, Bush was a failure at everything he touched except for the sweetheart deal he got buying the Texas Rangers. He left Texas in debt shambles when he went to Washington. Oh yeah, he was cheerleader not football player. He hid out in the Air Guard during Nam. Bush is President and you are running crap against Schuler? FU
I’m not understanding why everyone is so serious about this being a bad idea… I think it’s a wonderful idea, I’m only 21 (meaning I was 9 when Heath Shuler was drafted) but I know that Heath Shuler was among the worst in the QB shuffle we had… he couldn’t even beat the then-crappy Cardinals the first game of the season, instead we go Gus Ferrotte who runs his head into the wall after the slowest non-Peyton Manning bootleg in NFL history… cost us a MNF tie with the Giants… I hope Heath doesn’t pull that same s#!t in Washington this time, and leave Gus slamming into Congressional lecterns if he’s unable to legislate once the congressional season starts…
Heath Shuler is to NFL quarterbacks as Steve Spurrier is to NFL head coaches.
Now, where’s my dog Billy…?
Heath Shuler was a manchild when he first started with the Redskins ( all of 20 controlling millions?). I recall, as an avid Skins fan and DC resident, Shuler’s downfall began with his sitting out training camp. But that was a BUSINESS DECISION stirred by his agent, not a major character flaw.
Moreover, while in Washington, Heath demonstrated himself to be generous in charity, of good character, humility, and genuine caring for those less fortunate then he. He never publicly berated naysayers or haters, as I recall. Now that Heath has matured, married, and settled down, he seems like a genuinely good descent man worthy of representing the good people of NC.
As for this website’s attempted character assasination and assistance to a Congressmen far removed from the average mountain country folk Heath identifies with, it is a shame and disgrace.
Should a good descent man worthy of representing the Average Joe be politically assasinated by what appears to be the childish and selfish desires of a myopic malcontent? And who is joining the malcontent’s side but Moon’s agents, Murdoch’s clones, and the GOP neocon establishment protecting their portfolios?
Descent => Decent.
You can tell what reference has influenced my recollection of that word.
What the hell did Heath Shuler do to cause the 400 murders? He wasn’t the mayor, and he didn’t play basketball. How can you blame DCs problems on Shuler?
He may have been a pretty shitty QB, but he had nothing to do with the 400 murders. That add sucks. At the same time it makes me laugh
Jason,
Just read about this site on the AP wire. This is some funny shit. And it really hit me hard. I’m a lifelong Skins fan and I grew up in Tennessee and graduated from UT. Shuler almost killed my love of the game and my favorite team. It’s payback time. I can’t believe how many of the posters here are attacking you. They have no sense of humor, man. BTW, I live in SD now. We should grab a beer and watch the Skins struggle to beat the lowly Vikings on Monday night. PB good for you?
I cant believe that I actually viewed this site. I found a blog that gave this website. I am now less smart than I was before I logged on.
For anyone to acually takes the time to post this crap is beyond me. I guess it takes a Redskins fan who has been on the losing end of the NFL for years to incorpoarte politics with his personal stance. Oh wait, their murder rate is down 50%. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! Your facts are wrong and your education is limited by your posting of something you know nothing about.
This person has no idea what he is talking about. He has no idea of the charity work, education, and stand up attitude that this person has. Di he post this. NO. These are attributes that we want in Washington. It is retards like this that have to put people down for any reason. I think you are the same as a tablod newspaper. If you base his NFL career, and your cities ignorance to hire a crack smoker as mayor, than more power to you.
It is not the fact that you posted the blog, it is the fact that in this day in age any idiot can make the news. YOUR CITY and OUR CONGRESS, in your city, has let us down for the last 10 years. Why should we listen to you, who obvioulsy is a fat slob you thinks football has anything to do with politics.
Pay attention to your family, or betetr yet, go help a good cause in WASHINGTON D.C instead of posting this crap. Use you city instead of putting it down. Because that is what you did by posting this moronic shit.
Although this post will get you of, because people looked at your site. Hell, you more than likey have your friends over to see the blogs. Just know this…..
Your site is what this country does not want. Idiots telling people what to do.
No one points out that while this site will have virtually no impact on the race, what little it does will probably help Shuler. The criticisms toward him are all about football and nothing about what kind of congressman he’d make. But every time he brings up Taylor (”You’re not helping us keep Shuler out of Washington”), it points out what a corrupt, right-wing douchbag he is. The “whoops, wrong site” link to the anti-Taylor site was a nice touch.
Heh. A nice touch indeed!
Speaking of attack ads, someone in NC-11 (I wish it was me, but I don’t have that kind of talent) did a really sweet anti-Taylor ad.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uK85bcRP-A0
THAT’S how an attack ad should be done.

This is the greatest cause of my time. I hate Heath “The Evil-Doer” Shuler , He destroyed many lives. Thank you for this wonderful cause.
Funny.
Have you seen the latest guerrilla ad about Charles Taylor?
WATCH THE VIDEO HERE: http://scrutinyhooligans.blogspot.com/2006/09/guerrilla-admaker-begins-internet.html
There’s also a rumor that Congressman Taylor had some sort of radical love pact with Norv Turner. I don’t know the details…
JWN says: “Seems he failed miserably at every business he owned & managed, made a lot of money from them…”
Hmmmm…let’s try to see the logic behind this statement…how exactly does someone “fail miserably at every business” he owns and manages, but then is somehow able to make “a lot of money from them”?? How does miserable failure in owning/running businesses lead to making lots of money from them? Can anyone explain this to me?
Democrats and liberals are shocked, shocked(!) at this light-hearted attack against Shuler. We are then subjected to the same nutty, tiresome loony-left tirades against out president and leader in a time of war.
Perhaps they prefer the halcyon days of Sandy Berger, Madeline Albright and the Boy Wonder himself, Bill Clinton. They long for the days of our secreatry of state dancing with Kim Jong Il after signing a non-proliferation treaty; which he proceeds to begin breaking the next day. They cry for the days when the former head of the NSA nixes taking out Osama and, in 2004, stuffs classified material emabarressing to the Clintonistas down his trousers and attempts to walk out of the National Archives; a crime he lated pleded guilty to. They wistfully drream of a return to the policies that brought us the 1993 WTC bombing, the bombings of our African embassies, the USS Cole attack, the Khobar Towers attack, the abandonment of US Rangers in Somalia and, the culmination of the enlightened policy of Democrats, September 11, 2001.
Ah, to have such a stalwart leader as Harry Reid who brags of defeating the Patriot Act. To hear the shrill braying of Nancy Pelosi and her ilk. It must truly be a pleasure to be a Democrat and a liberal.
Why, I’ll bet they are even still buying the “religion of peace” nonsense endlessly espoused by the mainstream media.
Ah, to be a liberal…life is so peaceful and wonderful.
Unlike the seeming majority of the folks who comment on this site, I realize this is tongue-in-cheek and I say, “Bravo!” It is funny how his celebrity can be attributed to his stint as an NFL quarterback, but it is never mentioned how singularly bad he was. Imagine if Ryan Leaf ran for public office.
I just want to point out that another reason to never, ever elect this man is that his daughters are named “Navy” and “Island.” Bit of a maritime fixation, eh?
Whine and complain!!! at least I can vote for Heath. and by the way, Carolina Panthers ARE THE TEAM !!!Washington is all washed up!! Just like Gibbs Race Teams!! Why do you think he came back to Football?
The creator of this site needs to get a life. What a loser!
Three and Out
Apparently there are some Redskins fans that hate Heath Shuler so much, they want to prevent him from heading back to DC – this time as a Congressman rather than a QB. Pretty compelling arguments. I mean, Norv Fucking Turner!…
Sorry, but I’ve got to say something about the drivel that Sam Haldi banged out on his PlaySkool keyboard. I see the same tired old crap coming from the most extreme of the hardcore Republicans.. never address any issues and keep yelling about Clinton. Admit it. Your party failed. Even after the joke that was the impeachment hearings, even after all the money wasted, it keeps coming up over and over and over.
Get a new schtick, man.
Clinton wasn’t honest. Find me a politicain who is. They all sway in the wind of public opinion. Last I checked though, Clinton didn’t invade a foreign country just because his father had failed at it a decade before. No WMDs, no link to 9/11, no nothing. Just good honest American soldiers paying the ultimate price for W’s ego. It’s a disgrace to so cavalierly throw lives away.
But you keep worrying about Clinton. He’s a bad bad man, and we need people like you to help us remember how bad he was.
Damn I’m glad I stayed up late enough to check out your site again.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE.
You’ve got the WNC crowd fired up!
And to think — I never would have believed that your rantings/most-excellent website would make any difference down here.
Love the CA-a-phob, heath lover comment. You are obviously rubbing the heath lovers the wrong way.
HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE
Keep it up!
Maybe we can finally get some meaningful dialogue going down here on this race.
Your fan,
Steve
YOUR A JOKE AND DONT DESERVE THE SPACE YOU TAKE UP I AM GLAD WE HAVENT GOT FANS LIKE YOU.POLITICS AND FOOTBALL HA HA HA HA NUFF SAID
The creator of this site should be dragged down to Swain County and left bleeding and broken in the tunnel at the end of “the road to nowhere”. Heath was the raw steel which was ready to be molded into an integral part of a well oiled and tuned football machine. Norv and the punky redskins fans failed in doing their part to create a great team, and Shuler paid the price for their incompetence. What kind of idiot thinks you can just pile millions into a great QB, receiver, and running back and then out squirts a great offense? I am sure that WHEN Heath takes office, we will finally have a great representative of the true southern Democrat. I would be truly shocked and amazed if he does not serve Americans better than 99% of those elected. At least on this trip to Washington, he won’t be hamstrung by an idiot coach, fairweather fans, and a line that cant block.
Shuler, on hunt for funds in D.C., stays focused
WASHINGTON — Democrat Heath Shuler stayed on message Tuesday as he began making the rounds in Washington for money and support in his bid to unseat GOP Rep. Charles Taylor.
Shuler said he’s running because Taylor, an eight-term incumbent, isn’t doing a good job representing the 11th Congressional District.
“Jobs, health care and education — those are the three areas where he has failed,” Shuler said.
Taylor disputes that and says his position as a member of the House Appropriations Committee positions him to send money home for needed projects.
Shuler, in a race that political handicappers say is one to watch, is telling congressional Democrats and their supporters that he has the skills and drive to represent the district.
He has led Taylor in fundraising, but last week the Brevard Republican pumped $850,000 in loans and personal money into his campaign.
On the hunt for money, Shuler spent much of Tuesday trapshooting at a fundraiser sponsored by Rep. Mike Thompson, a moderate California Democrat. Dave Butz, a former Washington NFL player, dropped by the event to visit with Shuler, a former Washington quarterback.
A real estate developer and a Swain County native, Shuler also has scheduled several press interviews and stops at the Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee and congressional offices.
He and 33 other Democratic candidates tonight will attend a party fundraiser in their honor.
Shuler was fuzzy on any appointments he has planned with special interest groups. But he said the money he collects during his visit here won’t make him beholden to his party or to interest groups.
“I think all the members of Congress should pay tribute and loyalty to one group of people, and that’s their constituents,” Shuler said. “Whether you get support, whether you get funding from different labor groups or corporations, it really comes down to when you cast that vote what is right for the people of your district, what is right for the American people.”
Shuler said he doesn’t like having to ask for campaign money and is not in the race for gain or glory. “I had my 15 minutes of fame,” he said referring to his NFL days and his stint as a University of Tennessee football star.
The National Republican Congressional Committee, which once tried to recruit Shuler as a GOP candidate, blasted his two-day trip to Washington and tried to label him a liberal, despite little difference between him and Taylor on most social issues.
Shuler laughed off the NRCC attack, especially the liberal tag.
“The NRCC actually asked me to run for office once before (in Tennessee). I think it’s a lot of sour grapes,” Shuler said.
In particular, Shuler identifies with the conservative-to-moderate Blue Dog Democrats, who have embraced him because he supports federal spending restraint and limits on the money that congressional lawmakers send home to their districts for special projects.
Blue Dog Coalition member John Tanner, D-Tenn., said Shuler is part of a crop of business-oriented Democrats who stand a chance of winning over voters in conservative areas.
“There’s a trend — it might be a small trend — of people looking to moderate people interested in solutions rather than tilting at political windmills,” Tanner said.
Tanner pitched in with former North Carolina Gov. Jim Hunt in August to help Shuler at a fundraiser in Asheville. Hunt stepped in again on Monday with a fundraiser for Shuler in Raleigh.
Heath Shuler, right, and Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Calif., encourage other members of their group while shooting a round at the Prince George’s County Trap and Skeet Center in Glendale, Md., on Tuesday. Shuler, a former Washington quarterback, is running for the 11th Congressional District seat in North Carolina as a Democrat.
Good grief, this is satire, some of you are wrapped WAY too tight – especially you Bush-hating lefties. Lighten up!
On a more serious note, as a UT grad I appreciate what Heath Shuler did at UT and I wish he had seen more success in the NFL. I don’t think he’s a bad guy at all. As a Vol and a staunch conservative however, I am extremely disappointed that Heath sets out to convince the people of the 11th District that he’s a conservative – in a party that is almost uniformly liberal. No matter where you come down on the issues, it’s breathtakingly disingenuous to say you’re a conservative and a democrat. The few conservatives to be found in the “pary of tolerance” (i.e. Zell Miller) have now been summarily excommunicated. Even true moderates like Senator Lieberman have been kicked out of the so-called “big tent.” I think most people of the 11th District are smart enough to know that there is no place for a true conservative in the Democrat party. For Heath to say that he can be a conservative and a Democrat makes him stupendously naive or dishonest. I lean towards naive – after all, he is a fellow Vol.
Dear Josh Cantrell,
I am a former American soldier (served in Desert Storm) that you whine about paying the ultimate price. Guess what? Soldiers defend their country and sometimes they are called on to pay the ultimate price; that is their job and their duty.
I know some present-day soldiers who think you and your tired drivel about “sacrifice” and “paying the ultimate price” is just that; mindless drivel. Every soldier who signs up for service knows that he or she may be called to serve and defend with honor idiots like yourself who have led an insulated life and consider their existence to be the pursuit of comfort. Do you wail so when any police officer is killed in the line of duty by some meth-addicted criminal? Do you cry and beat your fists in frustration when some brave firefighter runs into a burning building, only to never return? They are soldiers and they know their duty; do you know yours as a citizen? I wonder.
I am not obsessed with Bill Clinton. The man is a non-entity as far as I am concerned. But for you to sit there and say there were no WMDs or any link to international terror is pure whimsy. We have found WMDs since 2003, Saddam used them in the past and he is on tape as saying that all he is doing is waiting for your vaunted UN inspectors to leave before ramping up production. No one ever claimed there were links to Saddam and 9-11 even though there were. What was claimed, and of this there is no doubt, is that there were serious links between Saddam’s regime and Islamic terrorist organizations. Or have you forgotten the training grounds with aircraft fuselage, Abu Nidal living at the Baghdad Hilton, Saddam’s dual-purpose equipment or his bounty payments to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers…to name just a few.
You, sir, are welcome to your tired, effiminate view of the world and your hysterical, and endless, bashing of this administration. I do not expect people like you to burden yourself with facts. After all, why bother with facts or history when you can rant about GWB’s father (whom, let us not forget, Saddam tried to assassinate) and pretend that Mesopatamia was the garden spot of the world until the big, bad Americans showed up. Just a bunch of peaceful Arabs/Muslims who are being abused by the relentless American juggernaut.
Plese go back to school…any school, even Playskool. And while you are there, perhaps read a book or two.
Perhaps that is a bad idea…I have a feelign that you would be drawn to the latest Noam Chomsky or Frank Rich masterpiece; better that you just remain a useless idiot for now.
Best regards,
Sam Haldi
typical chickenhawk site.
Shuler OB record in Wash was mostly due to the incredibly inept and injury prone offensive line doing nothing in front him.
ya know–kinda like bush’s
I came to this site b/c of the S.I. story on Shuler and the mention of this site. I found the ads quite funny, but even more humorous was the explosion of angry comments that are posted on here. Do we all catch the sarcasm in these ads or are we too dimwitted to see a joke? I see this as a “p.c.” generation too busy with their heads up their butts to be able to take a joke.
The creator of this site, Jason Woodmansee, said in S.I. “The site is one hundred percent a joke. You really hope people make their decisions based on something more important than the stuff I’m doing.” With that in mind I hope we can all simmer down and not throw this guy under the bus b/c he has created some funny fake ads. Take a joke, that’s what makes this country great.
I am very disappointed to see this site. It is not obvious that the real problem with the Democratic party is that they don’t have a good QB! I think it is time that we grant Heath a second chance in Washington as QB of the Democratic Party. Forget Pelosi! Heath for Speaker of the House!
(I wonder if he will show up on the first day of Congress or if he will “hold out” for a better deal like he did last time he came to DC.)
Keep up the good work! Love the comments!
ShulerLover
RELEVENCE, man RELEVENCE!
where did heath disappear too. i have not heard his name in years.
