And the dust settles…
Things have been a little crazy at Stop Shuler HQ lately. We had just shut off the lights and left for a brief vacation, when our friends at Deadspin and the Associated Press ran stories on us. I’m sure our loyal reader(s) were wondering why we were suddenly getting so many comments.
So, based on the feedback we have gotten, we wanted to clarify a few things:
- This is not the place for a boring discussion of political policy.
This is a place about football, and Heath Shuler’s lack of skill therein. If you want to complain about right-wing moonbats or liberal kooks, talk to Kos or Malkin. And for the record, the fact that Dubya failed at some businesses before becoming President is totally a non sequitur. However, it does give us an idea for our next ad – "Heath Shuler is a miserable failure, just like George Bush." Hey, tying your opponent to Bush worked for Ned Lamont… - Some of you people are nuts.
We expected to get attacked. We expected to be called Republican hacks and/or traitors. What we did not expect that there would be people out there so blinded by their political beliefs that they would actually defend Shuler’s NFL "career." Sure, Norv did not handle the situation well (but what did he handle well?), but come on — this point is not up for debate. He was a terrible NFL quarterback. His injuries just kept him from throwing more interceptions. - We are seriously getting worried that we are right.
Shuler came to Washington last week and the Redskins lost twice. Clinton Portis was unable to practice. And fire and brimstone came down from the sky, and dogs and cats laid down together… okay, we made that last part up. But it’s just got to be Shuler’s fault that the Redskins look so bad this year, right? Right?
Anyway, thanks for all the comments (except for the aforementioned whack jobs who think Shuler’s record is misunderstood). Keep up the fight!

You are right–people are nuts. And they take themselves and things in general waaaay too seriously.
Your site is great!
As a Redskins fan I think you guys are right on target. Even if I don’t think Shuler is actually a jinx to the team now, the memories he brings back are so painful I have to close my eyes and meditate while chanting “Gibbs will fix it” over and over just to get the Norv and Heath images out of my head.
I do have a problem with one contention you make, however, and that is you guys give Peyton Manning way too much credit. Manning is a big-game choker and I can assure you that if he ever runs for governor of Indiana, a StopManning website will soon follow.
Not that we like to defend any Manning (burn in hell, Eli!), but to be a big game choker, it means you get to big games.
Gibbs will fix it, Gibbs will fix it, Gibbs will fix it…
I’m a Shuler voter, and I think the site is hilarious. But, for the darkly funny Taylor goodness you have to check out Taylor Sucks: (http://www.taylorsucks.org).
Thanks for keeping it funny!

The above link absorbed the end parentheses…
Anyhoo.
Thanks for keeping it funny!

Great site. While you Redskin’s fans got to witness the free fall that was the beginning of his career, we in NOLA were lucky enough to be there to hear the “thud” as he hit rock bottom. Love the hate ads by the way.
Here is another piece of evidence to support your theory. Heath Shuler wore #5. He was drafted #3 overall in the NFL draft. 5+3=8. Shuler started his first game for the Saints on August 31, 1997(not surprisingly, a loss to the Rams), almost exactly eight (or rewritten, 5+3) years to the day before Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans. Heath Shuler is also responsible for Katrina. FUCKATRINA.
I’m with you guys about keeping Shuler out of DC. I live here now. But don’t send him back to New Orleans. We don’t need that shit down there. Seriously. Feel free to post this evidence on your site. The Shuler effect is more powerful than even enlightened ones such as you imagined. It wasn’t Michael Brown or George W. Bush or Kathleen Blanco or Ray Nagin’s fault; it was Heath Shuler’s. And maybe also Ditka’s.
Shuler cant even pay his taxes!

Perhaps you are too fixed on football. Keep in mind that, at least until recent years, the Democrats in Congress played the Republicans in softball. Perhaps Heath Shuler could contribute to the Democrats as a pitcher–of softballs, not as a source of beer.
And also consider what might happen if he were elected and returned to Congress every two years, well into the distant future, long after many of us are in eternal rest. And after he too gets laid to rest–not laid, to rest–a Congress grateful for his services will lead the renaming of the Redskins’ football stadium, which will then hold 150,000 fans, to Heath Shuler Stadium. What a lovely thought to have before one goes to bed or at any time of day or night.
I have walked the edge of North Carolina’s 11th District, while chugging up the Appalachian Trail. It’s great football country. Perhaps Mr. Shuler could teach young ‘uns how to pass and hope that some day, they could be quarterbacks for the Dallas Cowboys or the Philadelphia Eagles, or the New York Giants, or all three. Perhaps that could and should be his future. Never lose hope.
Also, August is the eighth monh of the year. And if you kick the “h” out of Heath Shuler, you have eight letters left.
